For international release in autumn 2010, organ music by Percy Whitlock. Recorded on the organ in the Chapel of Rugby School in 1985, this digital recording was previously released on cassette. This new compact disc on the Herald label will include two newly recorded tracks - the Sortie (from Seven Sketches on Verses of the Psalms) and the second Fantasie Choral. Sadly the original instrument at Rugby was replaced some time ago so the new tracks were recorded on the fine organ in Brentwood Cathedral in November 2009. This will be the first time that the original recordings have been heard in all their digital splendour.
Pre-release copies available from July 1st. Complete track-listing.
The Bliss of Solitude - my wife's latest recording, with the tenor Richard Dowling, is now available on the Herald label. The album includes the first recording of Andrew Wright's song-cycle The Bliss of Solitude as well as Vaughan Williams' On Wenlock Edge and songs by Quilter. The CD also includes piano solos by Vaughan Williams and Quilter. Details here.
Paper Dances - my first piece for piano duet & orchestra was recorded by the Southbank Sinfonia in September as a part of their collaboration with the BBC Concert Orchestra and was conducted by Stephen Bell. I subsequently broadcast it with duet-partner Joanna Smith as part of a piano duet feature for Friday Night is Music Night on BBC Radio 2.
A recording of my Christmas music is available on the Naxos label (8.570793) under the title Festive Frolic. This CD was recorded in St John's, Smith Square, London by the Joyful Company of Singers (music director, Peter Broadbent) and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (led by Clio Gould), all under the baton of Stephen Bell. They were joined by the tenor, Mark Wilde and Stuart Nicholson, assistant-organist of Birmingham Cathedral.
The CD contains the first complete recording of Wassail Down the Wind - my suite of "Three Drinking Songs for Organist & Orchestra" which features the mighty Harrison organ in The Temple Church,London.
